July 27, 2001 - Thanks for the birthday card and check, Mom!! I ordered some new kites and they came today. I got two quad line kites; a stunter and a power kite (see below). I'm really excited to go fly 'em.
I haven't had a chance yet, but soon (I hope). Gotta work the weekend, but I have all next week off.
July 22, 2001 - Happy birthday to me :) I turn 41 today. I am having a pretty depressing birthday ... nothing special. I am at a loss what we'll do with Zephen. He seems to be doing everything he can to piss us off. I don't understand his behavior. You would think he would try to be at his best. Mary Ann worked today and I'm making dinner. Heather has forgotten it's my birthday and Zephen wouldn't care even if he knew :) Oh well, such is life. The past couple of weeks have been up and down with Zephen. His father refuses to come get him and we have no way to get him on a plane. I offered to pay for Michael's ticket, but he won't get him. Mary Ann has been looking into some residential treatment programs, but the cost is exceedingly high and we would mortgage our entire future and retirement to pay for it. It has become clear we aren't going to be able to send him to his father's and I'm feeling pretty trapped on what we can do.
July 9, 2001 - Zephen was suppose to go back to his father's Saturday .... well, it didn't happen. When we were ready to go to the airport, Zephen said he didn't want to go. In the car, he threw his medications out the side window and began trashing the van. At the airport, we got to the gate only to have him freak out and the airline refuse to allow him to board. We talked to his old therapist here today as well as spoke with Michael. We're still trying to work something out, but since we returned from the airport, his attitude has been one of destruction and hatred. We were completely blind-sided by all this and really don't have a good answer. He's even more threatening to Heather right now. Michael is getting his meds out via overnight express and his therapist said to tread lightly around him until we can get him properly medicated again. Wish happy thoughts for us ... our world has been turned over once again and we are barely coping at the moment.
July 5, 2001 - We had a great 4th of July at Nancy and Dave's home last night!! We took Mary Ann's nephew, E.J., up with us and we enjoyed a fireworks show only Dave would display. Marysville is quite relaxed with their fireworks laws and the sky was lit up in all directions around us. Dave wrapped it up with 90 mortars and a real expensive fireworks cake that was incredible to watch. We got everything cleaned up and today hung out until 5pm or so. All in all, a good 4th. Thanks, guys, it was fun.
July 4, 2001 - Happy Independence Day Everyone!!!
July 2, 2001 - It's a beautiful morning. I had another long weekend at work and I'm going to enjoy this day if I can. Mary Ann had picked up Heather from summer camp Saturday and Heather has promptly proclaimed she is going to go again next year. The experience was what we hoped, an overabundance of fun and accomplishment. Heather is no longer interested in doing the traibikes next year and wants to do the horses again. The daily rides and lessons were sandwiched between swimming, canoeing, arts and crafts and group games, as well as other activities. She is most proud of the fact she completed a military-type rope course that required quite a bit of determination and skill to finish. She came home full of self-confidence and positive attitudes and we are really happy it went so well. Mary Ann dropped Zephen off with Nancy and Dave on Saturday as well. She also picked up her nephew, E.J., and he'll be staying with us this week. I had made a workday trade this week, so I'll be working tomorrow for someone in exchange for Thursday. On the 4th of July, every year, we try to spend it with Nancy and Dave. In the past it has been hard for me to go back to work the following morning with only a few hours sleep. Dave spends a small fortune on fireworks and puts on a big display on his culdesac that runs from dusk till midnight (Marisville has some pretty liberal fireworks laws, so he can launch some monstrous stuff). Both Mary Ann and I have to work the 4th, but we both now have the next day off and we'll be heading up after work Wednesday. It should be fun.
